About

Hello, my name is John David Gordon

I’m working in UCD, Ireland as a physicist. My research interests tend to run pretty wild and varied, the more practical aspects of which generally focus around nanophotonics, plasmonics and metamaterials. My PhD focused on developing a novel optical superesolution technique throw manipulating the plasmonic response of nanoscale pixels. I’m also interested in determining what it will take to improve the limits of detection in SPR and the medical dialysis implications this would offer. One approach may be progressing the effective n and k response of materials to light, beyond what gold and silver can currently offer us. Further interests include: Using SPR as a possible cell dialysis mechanism, Tuneable thermal conductivity of a material with low voltage ordered/disordered CNT networks, Understanding what a free relativistic electron sees and feels as it passes through an optical nearfield, Electron acceleration with plasmonic structures (Comsol) and Thermoplasmonics.

I hope this blog inspires you to explore new science! Feel free to leave a comment. I’m pretty slow on the old social media, best to email me: johndavidgordon@gmail.com

 Happy physics’ing!
